The new name makes it easier to understand the type of e-signature this signing method provides.
There are still three options available when signing with Simple Electronic Signatures: drawing, typing, or uploading an image of your signature. However, from now on you can enable/disable each of these at an account level. This gives you better control over which Simple Electronic Signature your signers can use.
We still recommend using eID-based signatures when possible, and only using Simple Electronic Signatures for signers who do not have access to an eID.
You can learn more about the use cases for Simple Electronic Signatures here.
You can expect the change in naming to take effect at the end of the month.
